WordCamp Europe 2025 – Melapress
June is a month everyone who works with WordPress is particularly fond of. It’s the month during which WCEU, short for WordCamp Europe, takes place. This year, just over 1,700 attendees descended upon Basel, Switzerland, for three full days of everything that is WordPress. The Melapress team was no exception, being a yearly sponsor of the event.
The event
This year’s event took place in the Messe Basel and Congress Center. Located right at the very edge of Switzerland, close to the German and French borders, Basel is known as the cultural capital of Switzerland – making it an ideal location for WCEU.

The event itself, spread over three days, was chock-a-block with inspirational and informative workshops and talks. From Noel Tock’s presentation about how WordPress impacts global resilience and saves lives, to Taco Verdonschot’s Live website reviews by industry experts, this year’s conference truly had something for everyone.
Melapress booth
As a yearly sponsor, Melapress had a booth in the sponsors’ hall where we got to meet customers, partners, and friends. Needless to say, it was a busy, fun, and productive 3-day affair. WCEU gives us a chance to meet people face-to-face, an opportunity for which we are very grateful, as we give back to the community we hold so close to our hearts.

This year, we also ran a fun competition where attendees had to guess the combination of our secure padlock. With a Meta Quest and a GoPro up for grabs, this competition went down very well. The first prize was won within a couple of hours, while the second combination was never guessed. In the end, we picked a competitor at random who was very happy to have won the camera.

Security survey
For the third year in a row, we featured our WordPress security survey at WCEU, with willing participants filling in the short survey. We are happy to report that we received an encouraging number of responses and cannot wait to share the results with you.
In the meantime, you can read more about last year’s results here.
We also ran the survey online, with the same questions and some cool prizes up for grabs. If you missed this year’s edition, make sure you subscribe to our newsletter to stay informed of everything that goes on at Melapress.
Closing remarks
Matt Mullenweg’s fireside chat with Mary Hubbard touched on many important subjects including Five for the Future, mentorship opportunities, and a pilot project at the University of Pisa that sees WordPress contribution hours equalling to six credits. This is truly excellent news to hear and we cannot wait to see where it goes!
There was also time for a Q&A from attendees, with some important and useful questions asked by the audience.
Didn’t make it to this year’s event? You’ll be glad to know that you can find all talks available on WordPress TV, which you can watch for free.
WCEU – an event worth attending
WCEU is an event that never disappoints. From the people and atmosphere to the talks, workshops, and everything in between, it truly has something for everyone, and we are very happy to have been part of it for yet another year. Next year’s event will take place in Kraków, Poland, and we’re already excited to see what next year’s event will hold.
