2024: Year in Review

I don’t know about you, but it seems that 2024 flew past in the blink of an eye. Even so, it was a busy year for Melapress. We released 29 plugin updates, grew plugin installation numbers, sponsored several WordPress events, and cemented our commitment to contributing to Five for the future.

As we start 2025, we wanted to recap what 2024 has been all about. Join us for a quick trip down the 2024 memory lane as we go over the numbers that made the year a success.

Plugin updates and numbers

2024 was a busy year for plugin releases, with 29 updates released over the year for six plugins. With many new features added to our lineup, the team worked hard to ensure our plugins continue to deliver value and peace of mind for all of our customers.

We also simplified pricing and revised the cost of plans downwards, making premium plugins more affordable and user-friendly. This has had a positive impact on our customers, ensuring better WordPress security and management for even more people.

WP Activity Log

WP Activity Log received eight updates throughout the year, solidifying the plugin’s position as the most feature-rich WordPress activity log plugin on the market. In 2024, we focused on improving the plugin’s existing features. Updates included improving and expanding features, including:

• New reports module
• Improved coverage with several new activity log events added
• Integrated the MAinWP extension in the core plugin

We’re also happy to report that the free edition of WP Activity Log has now surpassed 200,000 active installations.

WP 2FA

WP 2FA is our WordPress 2FA plugin, offering more authentication methods than you can shake a stick at. Last year, we released 5 updates, adding tons of new features and new authentication methods, including:

• Support for 2FA codes over Clickatell
• Support for Yubico hardware keys

WP 2FA also saw the biggest change in its pricing model. While previously it followed user-based licensing, this was changed to site-based licensing following feedback from our customers. The free edition of the plugin reached 60,000 active installations.

Melapress Login Security

Melapress Login Security is one of our fastest-growing plugins. Today it has become a powerhouse for securing the WordPress login, with several tools now available to keep your login security in tip-top shape. 

With six updates released over 2024, Melapress Login Security offers administrators and website owners an even greater selection of policies and tools, including: 

• Limit login attempts included in the Free edition
• User login IP restriction policy to limit account sharing and unauthorized access
• Geoblocking on the login page for improved risk management
• GDPR consent message on login page to easily meet compliance requirements
• Security questions for additional user verification
• Unrecognized device policy with an option to remotely terminate the session

Still a relatively new plugin, Melapress Login Security reached 2,000 active installations by the end of 2024.

CAPTCHA 4WP

If you’re looking to fight spam on your WordPress website, CAPTCHA 4WP is a must-have. With 3 updates over the year, it now has even more ways to combat spam, including:

• Geoblocking for website forms
• Geoblocking for WordPress comments

CAPTCHA 4WP has come a long way since Melapress acquired it, thanks to the hard work of the entire team. Today, we’re proud to announce that it has reached over 100,000 active installations.

Melapress File Monitor 

Melapress File Monitor is a completely-free plugin that monitors files for changes. The plugin was completely re-designed and re-developed from scratch at the start of the year and renamed from Website File Changes Monitor to Melapress File Monitor. It also received six updates over the year, adding more settings and capabilities, including:

• New settings to exclude objects from the scan
• Detection of file and folder permissions changes

Melapress File Monitor surpassed the 5,000 installation mark in 2024, marking another milestone in this up-and-coming plugin.

Admin Notices Manager

Our smallest (but still mighty) plugin, Admin Notices Manager, received one maintenance update throughout 2024, ensuring it continues to perform as admirably as ever.

Support

In 2024, we responded to 3,216 email support requests and 154 chats. The average first response time for emails was 14 hours and 21 minutes with 53% of all requests being resolved on the first reply. 88% of customers reaching out through email rated the responses as great.

Chats, on the other hand, had an average response time of 53 seconds and an average duration of just over 22 minutes.

While we always aim to do better, we are very happy with the numbers we achieved in 2024, overdelivering on our promises and achieving a high customer satisfaction rate.

Sponsorships

In 2024, we sponsored a number of events, including WCEU, which took place in Torino. As yearly sponsors of the event, we very much look forward to this experience: meeting customers and partners old and new, and making new connections is a yearly highlight we look forward to.

We also sponsored WordCamp Romania, which we attended in person, WordCamp Nagpur, and WordCamp Bangalore. Events that bring the community together are close to our hearts and something we are very proud to contribute to.

Team building

Since the entire Melapress team was present for WCEU, we took the opportunity to spend an extra day together. As the event took place in Italy, food was high on the agenda with a nice lunch had at an agritourism restaurant. While we certainly did not need to work an appetite, we still went for a nice, even if at times arduous, bike ride around Torino.

We are very lucky to have a team that can work like one team remotely from every corner of Europe. Being together in person is a time we all cherish, and helps us do even better work.

Five for the Future

Five for the Future is a program that enables individuals and organizations to contribute time or resources toward the future of WordPress. At the end of last year, we set plans in motion to start contributing manhours towards this important cause. We’re happy to announce that we’ve started our commitment to providing the following times:

• 4 to 8 documentation hours
• 4 to 8 support hours
• 4 hours organizing a local meetup, including one in Edinburgh

Plans for 2025

2025 is already shaping up to be an even busier year for Melapress. With several releases and a few surprises already in the pipeline, we look forward to another productive year, helping our customers and the WordPress community at large better secure and manage their WordPress website.
