How to terminate user sessions in WordPress

WP Activity Log includes a Users Sessions & Management module straight out of the box. The module is designed to give you greater visibility and control over user sessions on your WordPress website. With this module, you can:

This guide explains how you can search for specific sessions and terminate them and how to terminate all logged-in sessions simultaneously.

Viewing logged in sessions

To see who is logged in on your WordPress website:

  1. Click on WP Activity Log from the WordPress side menu
  2. Click on Logged In Users

Here you will see a list of all active sessions. As such, the same user might appear more than once. Apart from seeing who is logged in to your WordPress website, you can also search for and list user sessions that meet specific criteria. We will be looking at this feature next.

To search for specific sessions, use the search facility located on the right side of the page.

View user sessions in WP Activity Log

You can choose a filter using the drop-down menu. Available filters include:

  • Username
  • Email
  • First name
  • Last name
  • IP Address
  • User role

To initiate a search;

  1. Choose the criteria you want to filter by
  2. Enter the corresponding value in the text box
  3. Click Search

This will filter all active sessions that match your selection, which will be displayed in the search results area as indicated by the arrow in the above screenshot.

To terminate all sessions in the search result, click on the Terminate all sessions that match this criteria button. This is the second button from the left, located right above the search result area, which is also highlighted in the above screenshot.

Terminating all logged-in users sessions

You can also terminate all logged-in user sessions on your website by clicking the Terminate All Session button, which is located in the top right corner of the screen.

When you click this button, you will be asked if you want to terminate all sessions including yours or all other users’ sessions but yours.
